Manoj Gautam is on a mission to
make the world a better place.
Manoj Gautam is known for his inspiring life story, his sustainable, community-based approaches to conservation, and his relentless pursuit of his convictions. Colleagues have often urged him, “you need to write a book!” After dodging the idea for years, Manoj agreed to work on not just one, but at least four books with the U.S. publisher, Pierce Press. Titles currently under development draw on his recent Oxford dissertation on ancient conservation practices, his work with Dr. Jane Goodall, and his ground-breaking work on Human Behavior Change (HBC) in wildlife conservation. Manoj has previously written articles, papers, white papers, and presentations on sustainability and conservation for Nepalese and international audiences.

The Conservationist
“For me, nothing is more important than species conservation because they represent the interconnectedness of all living beings and our habitats.”
From an early age, Manoj Gautam displayed a keen interest in nature and soon realized that animal habitats were changing rapidly for the worse in his native region and key species were being threatened. This disquiet launched Manoj into environmental advocacy, and he took many small initiatives on his own as a child and teenager. His early, yet important experiences formed the building blocks of a man who is known throughout the world for his successful, pragmatic approach to biodiversity and mitigating human impacts on the natural world. In carrying out this mission, Manoj has helped make conservation a core value and way of life in many human communities.

Primarily known for his conservation and animal welfare work, Manoj focuses on the people side of both the subjects.
Although many passionate environmental and animal activists have resorted to controversial activities that end up creating opposition to conservation measures, Manoj Gautam knows how to channel his passion for nature, his body of knowledge, and his considerable powers of persuasion into helping communities remedy their own environmental and animal concerns in an economically sustainable fashion.
Manoj’s work in creating educational opportunities amid domestic bonded child labor is one of his more celebrated humanitarian initiatives in a long list. Always a staunch advocate for indigenous peoples and local ethnic minorities and their rights and agency over their ancestral lands and ways of life, Manoj has fought against child labor in coal mines of Nepal’s western hills and helped resettle a whole village destroyed by the 2015 earthquake, complete with the domestic animals they depend on for survival. He has played a crucial role in helping many communities to emerge from natural disasters and thrive.
